Why Drinking and Dating Don’t Go Together

How many of you drink a cocktail before meeting a woman on a date?

Let’s face it, let’s be honest. How many of you drank something on the way? Perhaps you have a martini at home before you pick her up.

You know, so you’re at ease, relaxed, and stress-free.

Let me tell you right away: drinking and dating, or “dating under the influence,” is not a good idea. Any date that begins with you intoxicated is not a real date.

You’re going to show them a side of yourself that you shouldn’t.

So many of you are “change of personality drinkers,” as I call you.

You already know what happens.

You start drinking a little bit, you get a little more rambunctious, a little more confrontational, a little more sexually aggressive, and sometimes you just get rude all together.

If this is you, you should be aware. We’ve all been there and done that.

However, contrary to popular belief, alcohol and dating do not mix. Similarly, alcohol and driving do not mix.

Don’t show her your alcoholic side on the first few dates. It’s not the best look for you.

A friend of mine told me a story the other day—a true story, by the way. She was picked up by a man in a large SUV, similar to a Cadillac Escalade or what I call a “condominium on wheels.”

When he arrived, the guy was so relaxed that he cracked open a can of beer.

Bringing your beer on a first date is very classy.

Being the gentleman that he was, he of course offered her one. Then he rolled down his window and lit a cigarette. (By the way, number two is smoking or drinking while driving. (This is a definite no-no.)

Here’s the deal, guys: I don’t care if you enjoy a six-pack or two with the boys, but when it comes to dating women, you don’t want to drink and date. A cocktail or two is fine, as long as she’s drinking one.

However, if you’re a heavy drinker, it’s not cool to arrive with a six-pack and a cooler in the back of the car and start cracking the beers before heading to Applebee’s or Chili’s.

To put it another way, she’s looking for a guy who can take her out on a romantic date. Whether she wants to tell you or not, that’s how all women are wired, and we all know it.

They want to be entertained. They don’t want to go out with a guy who is dressed like a good 16-year-old and has a fake ID.

Drinking and dating is therefore prohibited.

And, while this is (hopefully) an outlier, I know there are some men out there who could use a reality check right now.

Be truthful. Be honest. Also, stay sober.

That’s how you have a great first date.
